Water features can be a great addition to a yard - until they're not. This family had a front yard water feature that had run its course. It had become a safety concern with kids around, and the upkeep just wasn't worth it anymore. So they called us to help rethink the space entirely.

Here's what we were working with: a rock-heavy water feature sitting right in the front yard, tucked between two large blue spruce trees. It had open gaps, uneven stacked stone, and exposed areas that made it a real hazard for little ones. On top of that, the water use and ongoing maintenance were becoming a headache.

We removed the water feature and redesigned the space with a clean landscape bed using dark mulch and a natural flagstone stepstone path that moves you through the area between the trees. The stepping stones are large, flat, and set at a comfortable stride - practical and easy to walk without thinking twice. New plants were tucked into the beds to get things growing in a healthier, more intentional way.

What the family ended up with is a front yard that actually works for their lifestyle. Less water. Less time spent on upkeep. And no more worrying about the kids near a water feature with gaps and loose rock. That's a win on every level. This is exactly the kind of landscape design and installation work we love doing - solving a real problem while making the yard better in the process.

Not every yard feature that made sense at one point still makes sense now. If part of your outdoor space isn't working the way it should, it might be time to rethink it.
